WHO SHOULD GO: Hikers, Cyclist and
Equestrians. |
|
HOW TO GET THERE: From Hwy 101 take the
Grand Avenue exit north to Cal Poly. Turn right at the stop sign
on the South Perimeter in the campus. Turn right on Via
Carta. Proceed to the horse unit. The gate is open from
7:00 am to 6:30 pm. |
|
HIGHLIGHTS: The Cal Poly canyon and
the rolling grass foothills are dotted with oak trees. A train
track winding through the hills is very scenic. The bordering
West Cuesta Ridge supports a variety of radio towers. A
beautiful view of San Luis Obispo, the Morros, and the University
intensifies the joy of this hike or ride. |
|
TRAIL CHARACTER and DISTANCE: Mostly
truck roads with some winding trails. Many gates are on the
trail; all must to closed because of the cattle grazing throughout the
area. A loop through the canyon and back to Stenner is 8 miles. |
|
CAUTION: Classes may be in session in
the horse unit; please do not disturb. Some gates lead to
private property; do not trespass. |
