 | WHAT:
Chorro Creek Bird Refuge |
 |
HIGHLIGHTS: A magic secret garden
hidden in a peaceful riparian region. A lovely place to quietly watch
and listen to the birds and other wetland animals. |
 |
WHO SHOULD GO: Walkers, bird watchers
and nature lovers. |
 | HOW TO GET THERE: From Hwy 101 exit
for Los Osos and Baywood Park on South Bay Boulevard. Proceed 1.3
miles driving past State Park Road and over both bridges. Watch for
the Cabrillo Peak Trail Head on the left. It is difficult to see and
easy to pass. |
 | TRAIL CHARACTER and DISTANCE: Use the
trail left of the bulletin board. Trail is 1/4 mile of easy walking
and runs parallel with South Bay Blvd. Drop onto an old paved road
behind a gate. Walk south at a very modest climb for another 1/4 mile.
Just before reaching a private property fence the trail turns left,
circling a small knoll. Descend into a truly enchanted topiary garden.
Prolific vines have encased trees and branches to create imaginary
shapes. Let your imagination run free and you will see any apparition
you desire. Wander through this garden returning to the old road. On
your trip back to the trail head the view of the bay and estuary is
splendid. Walk this trail at high tide then repeat at low tide and
enjoy a completely changed view. |
 | CAUTION: Dogs are prohibited. |
