TRAIL CHARACTER and DISTANCE: The trail
begins near the railroad tracks reaching a "Y" junction in
50 yards. Take the right fork heading into an oak grove forest. A well
delineated trail wanders up to the top of the hill overlooking the
Heilman Park and golf course. The trail follows the golf course then
loops back through the oak forest and to the "Y" junction. A
short easy walk or jog in a wonderful natural area. The trail is
on about 60 acres of the city land. One can see numerous species of birds, deer,
quail, cottontails and jackrabbits, red fox and if your real patient a
beaver. But they are pretty elusive and night creatures at that. The woods
consist of pines, oaks, river willow and sycamore. |
