take a break while driving the coastal highway and enjoy the
spectacular views on foot. |

HOW TO GET THERE: Drive 75 miles north of
San Luis Obispo on Highway 1 to Kirk Creek Campground. |

WHERE TO PARK: A small parking area is
directly across the Hwy from the campground at the trailhead. |
 | TRAIL CHARACTER and DISTANCE: The trail
wanders north on the grass covered foothills, climbing moderately. The
total climb in 4 miles is approximately 2000 feet, each one adding
more beauty to the view of the ocean. Vicente Flat is a great place
for lunch and decision making. Retrace your steps to your vehicle. Or,
the inveterate hiker may go west to the Goat campsite or east for 2
miles to the Coon Peak Road. The road is a junction to many trails and
backpacker campsites.
