Creston.
WHO SHOULD GO: Hikers, cyclists and
equestrians.
HOW TO GET THERE: Hwy 101 to Santa Barbara
Rd. exit east. Cross over El Camino Real, turn left on Viejo Camino
and turn right on Halcon Road. Proceed east crossing the railroad and
the Salinas River to Rocky Canyon Rd.
WHERE TO PARK: Off the road at the
intersection of Halcon and Rocky Canyon Rd. The La Paloma Creek Park
is also an excellent trail head.
TRAIL CHARACTER and DISTANCE:
Travel east one mile one mile on
a newly paved quarry road from the intersection of Halcon and Rocky Canyon
Roads paying heed to all signs.
After climbing thru the quarry on a dirt road, following the signs, the very
rocky climb is about 1 mile bringing you up to the fire road for another
mile to the Rocky Canyon farm road that is 3 miles to Hwy 229 and lastly one
mile approximately to Creston on Hwy 229. The highest elevation is
about 1510' on the farmroad. Rocky Canyon Trail is one of the most biked
trail of this whole area it is called Bike View Heaven on the search
engines.
