WHAT:  Pismo Beach and the Butterfly Trail
WHO SHOULD GO: Walkers, hikers and nature lovers.
HIGHLIGHTS:  This walk varies tremendously by the season, the tide, the weather and the time of day.  Watching the nesting butterflies is a unique experience.  There are millions of beautiful butterflies in the spring and the area is quiet and peaceful during the rest of the year.
HOW TO GET THERE: From San Luis Obispo take U.S. 101 south to Highway 1; follow Highway 1 to Grand Ave.
WHERE TO PARK:  Park in the lot to the west.
TRAIL CHARACTER and DISTANCE: Walk north beside the golf course and turn right at the end of the golf course.  Use the bridge into the butterfly viewing area.  Exit this area on the second bridge and proceed toward the ocean.   Turning north you may walk toward and under the pier to the end of the beach.   At low tide at the end are some small caves.  Return the three miles to your vehicle.
CAUTION:  Dogs on a leash are permitted.
