Pismo Beach Grand Dune Trail |

WHO SHOULD GO: Walkers, bird watchers and
equestrians. |
 | HIGHLIGHTS: Wildflowers and birds are
abundant in this modest introduction to the Nipomo Dunes area.
Watch for the white-tailed kite, the Audubon warblers and the red-wing
blackbird. |
 | HOW TO GET THERE: From San Luis Obispo take
U.S. 101 south to Highway 1; follow Highway 1 to Grand Ave. |
 | WHERE TO PARK: Park in the lot to the
west. Rigs with horses can park in parking lot and empty field
next door. (Be sure to clean up all horse manure). |
 | TRAIL CHARACTER and DISTANCE: The trail
begins on the south side of Grand Avenue, directly across from the
unused kiosk in the parking lot. A deep sand dune trail leads
south for tow miles to the Oceano Campground and the beach.
Point Sal is a 15 mile ride south. |
 | CAUTION: Busy weekend traffic in the
off-road vehicle area may be distressing to horses. |
