WHERE:  East of Santa Margarita
WHO SHOULD GO:  Hikers, cyclists,  and equestrians.
HIGHLIGHTS:  Old mining area has year round streams and access to Lopez Canyon.
HOW TO GET THERE:  Hwy 101 to Highway 58, the Santa Margarita exit.  Follow highway 58, crossing the railroad tracks until Pozo Road is reached.  Take the right fork, Pozo Road approximately 9.8 miles to trailhead sign and silver mailbox that reads Rinconada Mine on right hand side of the road.  Turn into the driveway and proceed to the shale area.  The parking area is large enough to turn a horse trailer.
Trail Character and Distance:  The well defined trail is maintained by the Atascadero Horsemen.  The trail climbs grassy hills for two miles and reaches the Hi Mountain Lookout Road.  This is the beginning of the Little Falls Trail.  A 12 mile loop into Lopez Canyon and up Big Falls Trail returns to this point.
Caution:  Poison oak is abundant in the canyon.  Rattlesnakes and bear have been seen.  Remove horse manure from the parking area.
