Salmon Creek Trail |

HIGHLIGHTS: This newly formed wilderness
offers spectacular views of the Big Sur Coastline and Piedras Blancas
Lighthouse. There are campsites along the trail. |

WHO SHOULD GO: Hikers and equestrians |

HOW TO GET THERE: Take Highway 1, 62 miles
north of San Luis Obispo. |

WHERE TO PARK: There are several wide
spaces off the road near the trailhead. The trail sign is
obscure in the bushes. |
 |
TRAIL CHARACTER and DISTANCE: The
terrain is rugged, for experienced hikes and equestrians only.
The trail starts a slow, steep 600-foot climb in the first mile.
The final campsite, Lions Den Camp, is at the ridge top after a
3,000-foot climb. The loop is about 10 miles. |

CAUTION: Poison oak is plentiful.
Parking is on a busy highway. |
