WHERE:  Trout Creek Trail
WHO SHOULD GO:  Hikers, cyclists, backpackers, bird watchers and equestrians.
HIGHLIGHTS:  This trail is a segment of a large wilderness area.  The trail is primarily on the banks of trout creek, crossing the creek many times.  In the spring the creek runs and creates a soothing sound and beautiful settings.  The dry creek bed in the summer offers many interesting ecological variations.
HOW TO GET THERE:  Hwy 101 to Highway 58, the Santa Margarita exit.  Follow highway 58, crossing the railroad tracks until Pozo Road is reached.  Take the right fork, Pozo Road.  Proceed 17 miles to Hi Mountain Road on the right and the Pozo Forest Ranger Station.
Where To Park:  The ranger Stations is the trail head for equestrians and distance hikers.  If you wish to drive the 5 miles to the Trout Creek trail head, please note the dirt road is rutted and difficult for the average car.
Trail Character and Distance:  Dirt road for 5 miles to the Trout Creek Trail head on the left side of the road.  An easy well defined trail for 2.5 miles.  Trail climbs away from the creek for 1 mile to reach the Buckeye Camp.  A great place for backpackers to spend the night or for a lovely wilderness lunch stop.
Caution:  Poison oak is abundant.  Remove horse manure from staging area.
